2022 Consistency in Chaos
Syrah from the upper end of Carneros, the lower end of Sonoma Valley. The somms would tell you this is where the fog rolls up the valley.
Picked during the middle of the intense heatwave of mid-September. The vines weren’t handling the heat well and we wanted to get the fruit in as intact as possible.
Equal parts whole cluster, destemmed, and direct-pressed fruit infused together for 2 weeks. Free run only. aged in barrels and puncheons for a year.
This vintage feels very Italian to me. The heatwave induced a balance of spiked acidity and slightly rustic tannins that I dont often attribute to California. Really leaning into the bloody savory part of Syrah.
